The Mariners

It was a breezy clear Sunday night at Safeco field. The game was going to start momentarily. I thought it was going to be a regular Mariners game. The Seattle Mariners were playing the Chicago White Sox. Roenis Eliase was starting for the Mariners.

The crowd goes wild as the ball gets released from Roenes Elises hand. 20 rows up from the Mariners dugout my aunt Jamie and my brother (Eli) and of course myself were siting. The game started. The whole time my brother and I were standing, ready to move around to try and catch a ball. “KABOOM” The ball got hit right to the person in front of me. I tried to jump high enough to catch the ball, but failed. “Strike 1,” yelled the umpire from behind home plate.

Bottom of the 1st inning. Dustin Ackley was up to bat. As it began to get darker and darker, the lights on the field were getting brighter and brighter. Here comes the pitch. Dustin Ackley hits the ball deep in to right field! Everybody is quiet. Did the ball get hit hard enough? Is it a home run? GONE!!! Solo home run for Dustin Ackley, and the Mariners lead the White Sox 1-0 in the first inning.

By the 4th inning it was 4-0, my brother and I were still standing until one of the lady’s that worked in Safeco Field came up from the dugout, to where we were siting. My brother and I sat down, thinking we were going to get into trouble. In fact`` we kind of did. The lady said, “Think you can sit down, you are blocking the people behind you.” “OK,” I said before Eli could say anything else.

The next inning we are still winning 4-0. The lady comes up again, but this time we don’t know what she’s going to say. “Come with me,” she said. I look at my aunt. She gave me a look, a look like we should go. And so my brother and I went. “Where are you taking us?” “it’s a surprise the lady says proudly.” As we were walking down the stairs, closer and closer to the Mariners dugout the lady said, “Take a seat.” This was not just any seat, this was a seat on top of the dugout. “WOW!!!” Eli said excitingly, “I have never been this close to the players or the field.” “I have only been this close to the field, but never to the players!” I said.

The next thing I now I’m having a conversation with Brad Miller! We were talking about how last year I got a foul ball hit by him. That was pretty cool (that’s another story).

The score board was growing and growing with more points for the Mariners, and the fans getting louder and louder. I kind of recognized the lady that took us down to the dugout. I asked her, “Where you a part of the surprise last year for this kid named Jakey.” “Was the foul ball hit by Brad Miller?” “Yes” I said surprised.

Eli look its Felix!! “Hey Felix” said Eli. I said do you know Morrie Capeluto, the guy who put the curtains in your house. “I think so, why.” “Because we are his great grandchildren.” “And he always use to tell us story’s about you.” The next thing I say is, “can you please get me a ball.” He doesn’t say anything but he gives me a hand motion like he will try.

Home run Andy Chavez, Andy Chavez comes done to the dugout and I say “nice hit.” No response. But he did throw me something, it was bubble gum!! Eli check this out, bubble gum from Andy Chavez. Then I see Robinson Cano with 2 baseballs, I tap Eli, “you might want to get your mitt ready” Robinson Cano throws me a baseball, Felix throws Eli a ball. We don’t say anything. Gum, ball, baseball cards what a night.
